PSYCHOTHERAPY
At some point in our lives, each of us may feel down, experience anxiety, or be in a state of struggle with ourselves and the world. Facing these feelings can be overwhelming, and feel impossible to manage alone. Counselling is an opportunity to open up a conversation about how we are affected by life's challenges and allows us to think about how we can better understand our responses to difficult feelings, circumstances and events. Psychotherapy can be a creative and insightful experience.
My practice: I am a registered social worker and psychotherapist. I primarily draw from cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapy modalities in my work. My approach is rooted in values of harm reduction, being queer/trans-affirming, sex-positivity and anti-oppression. For some clients, it might also be valuable to know that I identify as gay, Muslim and a person of colour. For more on my professional experience and positions held, visit my LinkedIn Profile.
Some common issues I see in my clinical practice include:
Low mood, isolation, anger and anxiety
Relationships and intimacy
Body image, desire and excessive exercising/food monitoring
Social skills and self-awareness
Substance use, addiction, behaviour change
Self-harm and coping skills
Conflict around sex, sexual orientation and gender identity
Reconciling different aspects of identity
Experiences of trauma, loss, oppression
I offer individual psychotherapy geared to adolescents, adults, and older adults. Therapeutic work can be oriented toward specific short-term goals or address larger themes in the context of past and current life events.
